He's slated for surgery tomorrow. - Steve DiSalvo is recovering quite well from his heart attack. - Did everybody else notice that during the Halloween Havoc report segments on the WCW shows, when they show the contract signing for the main event between Ron Simmons and Lex Luger, they've deleted Luger saying that Simmons could be his chauffeur? This remark makes it through on the syndies, but not on TBS. I guess somebody decided that the racial overtones were in poor taste. - An interesting remark comes from Thomas Jipping of Coalitions for America regarding the Clarence Thomas hearings in the US. In reference to the left, Jipping says "Their tactics were of the calibre of world championship wrestling, the Persian Gulf war, and Hurricane Hugo combined." Does he know Dusty Rhodes and Jim Herd personally? - As reported by Charlie Gavinelli, Paul E. Dangerously was suspended with pay for leaking word of a title-vs.-title match between Lex Luger and Jerry Lawler to his friend Eddie Gilbert. Jim Ross will do commentary alone on the shows that Paul used to work. - The WWF's PPV on December 3rd will only run two hours. Something will take place at Survivor Series to warrant this show. - Madusa Micelli worked the last set of WCW tapings. It seems that Jim Ross wasn't lying. She is in as a wrestler along with some other women like Leilani Kai and Judy Martin, so I guess WCW is going to add yet another title to their organization. - As we've all guessed, Dusty Rhodes will be Ron Simmon's "manager" at Halloween Havoc. Furthermore, Mr. Hughes won't be there, so we'll have only Dusty and Harley Race on the outside of the ring, and knowing Dusty, eventually on the inside of the ring. - Sting renewed his contract with WCW. - The WWF's tour of England is going very well. Every show is a sellout and reports were that Wembley sold out in under an hour. Roddy Piper and Davey Boy Smith are headlining the WWF tour, for obvious reasons. London's Royal Albert Hall held the first Grand Sumo tournament ever outside of Japan. Akebono beat the Killer Whale on this show. When the big guys got their butts out of the building, it was time for the WWF to start the tour. Key results from the first couple of shows had Ric Flair beating Tito Santana in RAH and Kerry von Erich in Wembley. - Looks like Paul Orndorff has dodged the offers of the WWF and will sign with WCW again in the near future. - Big Van Vader starts with WCW again in November. There's talk that he'll work Halloween Havoc if Scott Steiner can't work the show. - I can't wait for those Lex Luger vs. Bill Kazmaier matches before the end of the year. ;-) They've all but told us that Ron Simmons won't win the title. Jim Ross has been hinting at Lex Luger vs. Rick Steiner and Luger vs. Kaz as future programs. Of course, Lex Luger's contract is up at the end of November and the WWF is putting out the feelers to him, so anything is possible. - Lots of talk that Rick Rude will be coming into WCW finally. He's expected to be the mystery Phantom at Halloween Havoc. - We have a local talk show taped in Toronto called "Shirley," hosted by Shirley Solomon. Earlier this week she had female boxers and wrestlers as her guest. To be exact she had one pro and one amateur from each sport. The focus was on whether women should participate in brutal sports. The female pro-wresting guest was Yukon Erica, who says that her manager (not named) knew Yukon Eric - hence, her name. Anyhow, Shirley asked the women if by fighting other women on TV and in arenas, they gave a message that women fight each other so it's okay to hit women. Basically, is their sport responsible for any increase in violence against women? Erica (whose real name was on the screen, but I didn't bother to write it down) commented that in Japan, women's pro-wrestling is revered and incredibly popular, yet there is nobody there blaming any social ills on the sport. Shirley was nonplussed. A reported from Ottawa came on the show and called pro-wrestling a sham and a farce, and Erica offered to teach him the ropes. It was all pretty silly, but Erica never gave in that the sport was booked. She did complain that no North American promoters were using women as athletes these days. Herb...
